These simple, inexpensive laboratory discard containers have a number of advantages compared with other systems.

It is easy to see when they are full, being moulded from clear plastic and they can be used dry or with disinfectant. The large 110mm. diameter neck (100mm.for Mini) allows easy access for discard and the container comes complete with red screw cap and yellow label printed with biohazard symbol and instructions in black (in line with safety labelling practices).

 

Dispo-Safe are moulded using P.E.T.

 

P.E.T. (Polyethylene Terephthalate) is widely accepted to be less damaging to the environment than P.V.C. (Polyvinyl Chloride which was used to produce the original Dispo-Safe jars). The process used to produce the new jars is the latest, most efficient method resulting in a reduction of up to 20% in production wastage - so although P.E.T. is a more expensive plastic in the raw state, the end product is similar in cost. The new production process also results in a more consistent wall thickness and a smoother neck to cap finish giving a better seal. In the finished form, P.E.T. is less brittle and has a higher impact resistance than P.V.C. which reduces damage during transportation. The new jars have no seams meaning less possible leakage areas. The neck diameter is slightly larger for even easier access. The base section of the jars is square for optimal space utilisation and the base corners are more rounded for higher strength. Heights and volumes of the jars remain very similar to the original jars.Note: P.E.T. plastic can be recycled.
